Prerequisite Who is eligible to take this exam?  All requirements must be completed prior to application for the examination:
  • Hold a current, active RN license in a state or territory of the US or the professional, legally recognized equivalent in another country.
  • Hold a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing.
  • Held an administrative position at the nurse executive level, OR a faculty position teaching graduate students nursing administration, OR a nursing management or executive consultation position, for at least 24 months full-time equivalent in the last 5 years.
  • Completed 30 hours of continuing education in nursing administration within the last three years.  This requirement is waived if you have a master’s degree in nursing administration.

Sign-in begins at 7:30am
Each day includes a one hour lunch (on your own), as well as a morning and afternoon break of 15 minutes each.  The order of lectures varies according to the speaker’s preference

    Environment of Care and Risk Management/TJC Standards/Patient and Employee Safety
  • Delivery of Care:  Part IV
    Visioning and Planning/Management Systems, Processes and Analysis
  • Legal and Regulatory Issues
    Health and Public Policy/CMS, Healthcare Funding and Reimbursement/Mandatory Reporting and Legal Risks and Liabilities

DAY 2

  • Ethical Issues
    Confidentiality, HIPPA and Privacy Issues/Standards of Clinical Practice and Professional Standards and Ethics
  • Healthcare Economics
    Fiscal Management and Financial Outcomes/Resource Management and Principles of Nursing Workload
  • Lunch 11:30am – 12:30pm
  • Healthcare Environment
    Customer Service/Professional Practice/Team Building/Organizational Impact
  • Professional Practice
    Communication/Nursing Research/Human Resources, Including Recruitment and Retention/Professional Nursing/PI, Staff Development and Principles of Leadership/Coaching and Mentoring

La Wanda Blackmon, MSN, RN-BC, NEA-BC, CNML, CDONA
La Wanda has 30 years of healthcare experience in the areas of critical care/trauma, with 27 years of experience in nursing administration, nursing education and healthcare consulting.  Her work experience includes over ten years of Chief Nursing Officer experience plus three years as Corporate Chief Nursing Officer of an international healthcare company.  La Wanda is currently the Vice President of Nursing, QI & Education of an international healthcare consulting company.  She has lectured internationally, published numerous articles and educational programs and authored books.  She has received numerous awards in nursing, administration, international organizations and healthcare over the past 20 years and has been certified in several areas including nursing administration, professional development and education, critical care and emergency nursing.

Cancellations in writing before May 1, will receive a full refund.  Cancellations in writing between May 1 and May 9 will be charged a $20 processing fee.  NO REFUNDS for cancellations on or after May 10, 2013.
