Qsart Test Instructions
The Qsart test measures the autonomic nerves that control sweating. The QSART measures the volume of sweat produced by stimulation.
.
TEST DURATION: This test takes approximately 45 minutes to complete.
HOW TO PREPARE
- Wear loose clothing on the day of the test.
- Avoid using cold medications, caffeine, or stimulants 24 hours prior to the test.
- Do not use body lotions or oils on the day of the test.
THE TEST
You will be asked to remove your shoes, socks and to change into a gown. The technologist or physician will wipe the skin on your leg and wrist with acetone, then alcohol. The technologist or physician will then use a tissue to wipe these areas dry. Four electrodes filled with acetylcholine are placed on three areas of the leg and one area on the wrist. The test runs a mild electrical stimulation through the electrodes to stimulate the sweat glands. The sweat responses are then measured. A mild tingly discomfort may be experienced at the site of the stimulation during the test.
AFTER THE TEST
There are no specific discharge instructions for the QSART test. You may resume your normal activities.
