Associate Professor of Neurology
Dr. Donahue earned his B.S. from the University of Dayton, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1984 with a degree in mathematics. He received his Ph.D. in Developmental Neurobiology from Emory University School of Medicine in 1988, and his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 1989, graduating magna cum laude.
Donahue served an internship in General Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Penn. Before completing a residency in Ophthalmology at the University Health Center of Pittsburgh. He was a fellow in Neuro-opthalmology and Ocular Vascular Disease and then a fellow in Pediatric Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from 1993 - 1995.
In 1995, Donahue joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University, where he is currently associate professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, with a joint-appointments in Pediatrics and Neurology. He is also director of the Ophthalmology Residency Training Program, director of the Ophthalmology Clinical Trials Unit, director of the Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship and medical director of the Tennessee Lions Eye Center for Children at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. He was recently named chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology.
