JONATHAN A. FORBES, MD, was born and raised in New Martinsville, WV and completed his undergraduate education at Grove City College, as a recipient of the Trustee Scholarship. As a member of the Grove City College football team, he set school and conference records for number of tackles for loss in a season, was named defensive MVP of the varsity football team during his junior and senior seasons, and received the campus Sportsman of the Year Award in 2002. Dr. Forbes subsequently graduated magna cum laude and accepted the U.S. Air Force Heath Professions Scholarship Program to attend the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from Pittsburgh in 2006, where he was awarded the David Glasser Honors Award for high academic standing.
As a neurosurgical resident at Vanderbilt, Dr. Forbes was awarded the 2011 AANS Synthes Craniofacial Neurotrauma Award for research linking subdural hemorrhage to rotational acceleration in American football.
Dr. Forbes will fulfill his commitment to the United States Air Force following completion of residency in 2013. Jon is married and has a son; he enjoys spending time with his family when outside of work.
