Department of Neurological Surgery

LUKE TOMYCZ, MD, is in his seventh and final year of the neurosurgery residency at Vanderbilt University.  He hails from Flint, Michigan.  He studied chemical engineering at MIT, before returning to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he attended medical school at the University of Michigan.  At Vanderbilt, he spent his two sub-specialty years as an infolded fellow in endovascular neurosurgery training with Michael Ayad MD/PhD, Robert Mericle MD, and Robert Singer MD.  During his residency, Dr. Tomycz was awarded an honorary AOA distinction for the exemplary teaching and mentorship he provided to rotating medical students.

Next year, Dr. Tomycz will pursue further training in a pediatric neurosurgery fellowship program.  He hopes to secure a career in academic neurosurgery with a dual focus on international neurosurgery and the application of engineering principles to effect neurosurgical innovations. 

Outside of the operating room, Luke enjoys travelling, the outdoors, reading, and playing the guitar.
