Zithromax (azithromycin)

Dear Physician,

Zithromax (azithromycin) is now available in a generic equivalent for all formulations including the Z-Pak.  The generic version costs about 10% of the branded product. Azithromycin continues to be a good drug for the treatment of atypical pathogens, and  a possible alternative to penicillin, in patients who are allergic. Branded Z-Pak costs $43 while generic is $24.
