Procedural Nursing at Vanderbilt
There are many different types of nursing practiced at Vanderbilt. Some nurses are attracted to episodic care of a diverse population of patients. These nurses undergo special training and have great expertise in a specific area of procedural nursing. Examples include
- PICC Nurses - trained in the placement of peripherally inserted central catheters to meet a patients needs for prolonged vascular access.
- Radiology Recovery Nurses - monitor patients undergoing radiology procedures and care for the patient in the post procedure phase.
- IV Team Nurses - trained in special techniques for placing IV lines. Are very experienced and can be called on when the patient's nurse cannot establish the required IV line.
