A Day in the Life

What is a typical day like for a Project Opportunity student?

Our student interns start each
day by puttingPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket on their standard issue hospital scrubs and storing whatever items they've brought to work in their lockers. Following that, there may be a brief period of classroom time, which may typically include:
  • discussing the upcoming day
  • having each student write his or her own work-related
    goal for the week
  • talking about employability skills

After this the students are sent out in rotations in the hospital. Initially they are accompanied by our staff, until they have become proficient in performing the functions of a given job with complete independence from the aid and instruction of our staff. Each day a student intern may be on as many as three rotations while they are at Project Opportunity. Toward the end of the day, our student interns return to the classroom for lunch. One small step we take towards fostering independence in our students is encouraging them to pack their own lunch each day.
