More About Project Opportunity

Modeled after a similar, highly successful program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, Project Opportunity aims to provide educational, developmental, and employment opportunities within Vanderbilt Medical Center to individuals with disabilities. Our ultimate goal is to fill a business need with qualified, well-trained employees.

Project Opportunity consists of two distinct yet overlapping components:

  • a job training program for high school students with developmental disabilities
  • job placement/follow up for Project Opportunity graduates who qualify for open positions

Once accepted into Project Opportunity, our participants remain students in their respective school system, and the job duties performed by our student-interns are uncompensated, educational positions adapted to training our student-interns in real workplace environments. To ensure individualized training and maximize students' opportunities for placement, we maintain a limited number of student-intern positions per academic year.
