Grand Rounds Lectures

Fall 2009

Welcome to the Department of Psychiatry

Psychiatry is changing. New knowledge, emerging from neuro-science and genetics, provides opportunities for improved diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. It is our mission to translate these discoveries into clinical practice. This website is an introduction to our research, patient care services and training programs.

We provide inpatient care to children, adolescents, and adults in the Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital (VPH), an 88-bed facility on the campus of Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Our research portfolio includes clinical, translational and preclinical studies of brain and behavior. We are recognized for our psychotic disorders and mood disorders research programs and are now significantly expanding other research areas, especially in child psychiatry. The Vanderbilt community is ideal for us, with many resources and outstanding faculty in the Vanderbilt Brain Institute, the Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Sciences and the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center.

The Grand Rounds series provides community-wide education about mental health, with renowned faculty from both Vanderbilt and other institutions.
