Introduction to Quality Improvement

Too often we focus on measures of quality without giving enough attention to changing the systems that produced those measures.  But, as Quality Guru Dr. W. Edwards Deming said, “Measurement is NOT action!"  Or, as Gipsey Ranney, PhD (a consultant on management, quality improvement and statistical methodology) said “Accident reports don’t fix the highway!” To meet our ambitious goals, we need to “equip everyone with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to improve healthcare”.
