There are over 10 million people living with cancer in the United States – nearly 20 times more than the entire population of Davidson County & twice that of the entire state of Tennessee.
According to the 2006 Institute of Medicine report “From Cancer Patient to Cancer Survivor: Lost in Transition” cancer survivors have an unmet need for targeted rehabilitation services. At the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, we are changing that because it is the right thing to do.
The VUMC Rehabilitation Oncology Program is being developed to provide a comprehensive approach for Physical & Occupational Therapy services delivery for cancer survivors.
The Orthopaedics & rehabilitation Cancer Focus Team is an interdisciplinary team of professionals that are working together to develop the nation’s gold standard of delivery of Rehabilitation Services for cancer patient populations. Our members represent Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Oncology Nursing, Hematology Oncology Medicine, and hospital administration. Our members also belong to VICC care conference groups, the VICC Pain & Symptom Management Program, VICC tumor boards, hospital committees, community advisory boards and a variety of professional organizations.
