Section Resource

The goal of The Resource is to acquaint all Section personnel with the guidelines and pathways for conducting official Vanderbilt business—the policies and procedures. A full listing of all University-sanctioned policies and procedures is beyond the scope of this manual, would reduplicate the efforts of other offices and is not the intent of this site. However, new and old employees alike can benefit from an information source that focuses on their position with the Vanderbilt organization-both as members of separate departments and as members of the Section of Surgical Sciences. The Resource provides Section employees with a full expression of the most frequently involved policies and most frequently used procedures. These are presented in such a way as to anticipate commonly asked questions and to expedite the process of conducting business activities. As needs indicate, those policies and procedures covered here will be revised.

The Resource also encourages Section employees to use internal services where those prove to be reliable, cost effective, and suitable to their needs. When the Resource does not exhaustively detail relevant policies and procedures, it provides direction to the appropriate information source. All policy matters covered in this manual are intended to conform to the official statement of them by the Dean's office. Any Dean's office, Vice Chancellor or University policy conflicts brought to our attention will be quickly revised to conform with the higher level policy as it supersedes Section policies. At the same time, it is expected that procedures may vary within departments, based on individual needs and available resources, and may require supplemental or additional departmental policies. The Resource is intended to make our jobs easier by anticipating our needs and providing us with reliable answers to frequently asked questions. We look forward to your suggestions for improving it.
