James T. Broome, M.D.

James T. Broome, M.D., is Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery. Dr. Broome returned to Vanderbilt after completing the Norman W. Thompson Fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at the University of Michigan. He completed his general surgery training here at Vanderbilt University. His clinical interests include the surgical management of diseases of the thyroid, parathyroids, adrenals, pancreas, and neuroendocrine tumors. He is particularly interested in PTH guided (AKA minimally invasive) parathyroidectomy, advanced laparoscopic adrenalectomies, the management of thyroid malignancy, and inherited cancer syndromes. He has studied and published articles related to multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndromes. Dr. Broome is active in endocrine surgery research and continues work to develop a novel intraoperative technique for identifying endocrine tissue. He also spearheads the creation of a comprehensive database to better understand the treatment of rare endocrine diseases. He is a member of several professional societies including the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
