Department of Thoracic Surgery

The Department of Thoracic Surgery supports the mission, vision, and credo of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center continues its leadership in medical education, research and patient care throughout the Southeast and the nation. Our mission is to bring the full measure of human knowledge, talent, and compassion to bear on the healing of the sick and injured and to advance health and wellness through excellence in patient care, education, and research. 

 We care for our patients and each other with compassion, excellence in surgery, and in a socially responsible manner, based upon new knowledge and continuous quality improvement.

We advance the comprehensive practice of thoracic surgery through research and by employing new and advanced technologies and treatment options. We provide an educational environment for our residents and students to enhance their abilities as future leaders in the field of thoracic surgery.
