Carol's interests span two vastly different yet complementary areas of healthcare: early detection of lung cancer and quality improvement science and education. Her work at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS)-Nashville Campus is focused on improving the timeliness and accuracy of diagnosis of lung cancer within the veteran population. She collaborates closely with her Vanderbilt colleagues with the shared mission of providing efficient, effective, equitable care for those who struggle with the signs and symptoms of lung cancer.
Carol received her Master of Science in Nursing (1993) and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (2011) from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. She has practices as an board certified acute care nurse practitioner at the TVHS Nashville Campus since 1996, and in pulmonary medicine since 2003. She is an assistant professor of nursing at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing teaching Quality Improvement and Patient Safety to the Doctor of Nursing Practice students.
