What happens after surgery?

Vanderbilt has been one of the national leaders in the development of patient care pathways which have been shown to provide the safest and most efficient postoperative patient care.  A hallmark of this program is patient education.  A one night hospitalization is anticipated for most patients undergoing robotic prostatectomy.  Single hospital rooms are provided where a family member may also stay.  The patient is informed in advance of each step of the recovery process and can anticipate the various steps in surgical recovery.  Both verbal and written postoperative instructions are provided by an experienced team of nurse practitioners who work closely with our surgical team.
