I’m Ali Grubbs, MSN, RN. I am the manager of the Neurosciences unit located on 6 North of Vanderbilt University Hospital.
To work on this unit, our nurses need to be able to perform neurological assessments, provide patient education, and manage complex patient family situations.

Our unit specializes in caring for the Neuroscience patient population which includes patients with closed and open head injuries, epilepsy, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Meningitis, and stroke. Our patients come from all over Tennessee and from around the Southeastern region of the United States to seek treatment.
Our patient focus is safe, quality care. We monitor the neurological status of our patients, and assist patients in returning to their optimal level of health.
A typical shift for our nurses includes performing pain assessments, neurological assessments, inspecting surgical incisions, providing patients with education on medications and the disease process, visual and technical monitoring of epilepsy patients, and providing support to patient families.
