VPH III is a 24 bed adult psychiatric unit that specializes in the treatment of individuals struggling with the problem of mental illness compounded by addictive disorders. Our unit offers exceptional medical care (including detoxification from drugs and alcohol) in a strong therapeutic environment based on the mental health model of recovery.
Our unit cares for patients diagnosed with mood disorders including depression, anxiety, bipolar, and comorbid personality disorders. We also have a dedicated number of beds dedicated to the care of geriatric patients. We are a milieu based environment focusing on stabilization through a multidisciplinary approach. Daily, we offer psychoeducational groups focused on improving the lives of patients experiencing disorders of mood including, but not limited to, healthy coping, skills building, relationships, healthy choices, and therapeutic recreational activities.
Our nursing staff includes Registered Nurses, Mental Health Specialists, and a Medical Receptionist. The team on VPH III is the resource expert in the care and treatment of individuals experiencing dual diagnosis disorders. We strive to decrease the stigma attached to mental illness and addiction through community outreach, education, and positive treatment outcomes. Our staff truly care about our patients and consistently go above and beyond to improve our patients experience and to help them feel valued.
The Unit’s community project this year was a shoe drive for ‘Soles for Souls’ where we collected over 350 pairs of shoes for the program. We raised over $3000.00 for this year’s Heart Walk, and we are currently participating in a new outreach program with Renewal House. In addition to our team awards, we received the 5 Star Customer Service Rating for 2012. We are proud of these acknowledgments, but we feel especially proud of our passion to provide excellent, individualized care for our patients and their families.
