I’m Dana Nichols, RN. I am the manager of the Newborn Nursery located in Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
If you love to help parents with their special new arrivals then this is the place to be. We are honored to see families at one of the happiest times of their lives and we are privileged to be there for them during this life-changing experience. We love babies and are very grateful to the families who entrust the care of their little ones to us.

Our focus in the Newborn Nursery is on providing family centered care and stressing family and infant bonding. We have moved from separating the mother and baby right after delivery to trying to keep them together as much as possible.
We are a 2A nursery which means we can take care of newborns that need special care. We also have lactation consultants who assist the new moms with breastfeeding. We have a hot-line for parents to call as well as a store that carries breastfeeding equipment and accessories that is open to our patients and to Vanderbilt employees who return to work after giving birth.
One thing that makes our unit unique is that we work with both staff and private pediatricians. We are pleased that this unit is at the forefront of providing the greater Nashville community more pre-natal service as well as educational opportunities.
Our tenure in the Newborn Nursery is strong with many of the staff celebrating 10-20 year anniversaries.
