The Transplant and Surgical Unit is a 34-bed adult unit located on the seventh floor of Vanderbilt University Hospital Critical Care Tower (CCT). The unit includes an outpatient treatment room and a 2-bed observation room. The unit serves adults, geriatrics, and adolescents ages 18 and over. The Transplant and Surgical Unit primarily admits patients requiring nursing care for renal/pancreas/liver transplant, renal/pancreas/liver transplant complications, complications associated with end stage renal disease and end stage liver disease, and general medical/surgical patients (ie, bariatric surgery).
The Transplant and Surgical Unit is considered a general care floor and holds to strict guidelines with regard to monitoring frequency; if more frequent monitoring is required, the patient is moved to a higher level of care. The unit attempts to minimize patients with infectious diseases to protect the transplant patient population.
