Radiology

“Welcome to the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Radiology Nursing is a unique specialty that combines the latest in technology with the science of nursing. Our nurses in Radiology and PICC influence patient care in a variety of settings and nursing roles.  They are involved in the assessment, planning and direct care of patients before, during, and after diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures.”

Valerie Kranhold, RN
Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences

The Radiology Department cares for all ages of patients, both inpatient and outpatient. The services involving nursing include Diagnostic, Nuclear Medicine, Interventional, Ultrasound, PICC, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Positron Emission Tomography and the Radiology Outpatient Care Unit. Our nursing care is influenced by the standards and scope of practice of the American Radiology Nurses Association (ARNA), the Association for Vascular Access (AVA), and the Infusion Nurses Society (INS).

We strive to work collaboratively with physicians, technologists, nurses in other departments and each other, to provide the highest quality and safest care to our patients.   Our philosophy involves shared ownership and accountability among peers.  The Nursing staff is encouraged to share ideas and engage in decision making when possible.
