VUMC's Nurse Residency Program
The transition from nursing student to professional nurse is challenging. That is why Vanderbilt University Medical Center offers a variety of Nurse Residency options, each focused on specialized areas of care to match individual career goals and interests.
Our Nurse Residents are full-time employees who are eased into the role of professional nurse through didactic sessions and hands-on clinical training, all under the tutelage and support of our trained nursing staff and unit educators.
Highlights of this program include:
- Outstanding preceptors in all clinical areas to guide you through the learning process.
- Content experts sharing their knowledge and expertise.
- After placement in a clinical area, additional training continues at the unit level.
- Professional and clinical support continues throughout the first year.

Adult Medicine
Adult Surgery
Summer 2010 cohort
The next application opportunity for our Nurse Residency Program will be for the Summer 2010 cohort.
We will accept applications from November 23, 2009-February 1, 2010. The start date is July 6, 2010.
- Applications are due by 5:00 p.m., Feb. 1, 2010
- Interviews will be held in February and March 2010.
