Mission

The Vanderbilt Comprehensive Assessment Program, for Professionals (V-CAP) is a multi-disciplinary program that provides the highest quality assessment and monitoring services to professionals suffering from addictions, mental health, boundary-related and burnout problems. V-CAP was formed to provide evaluations in a comprehensive and integrated manner and is located in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center complex in Nashville, TN.

The program provides behavioral health evaluations for helping professionals such as doctors, dentists, nurses, psychologists, clergy and attorneys. Our expertise is available to professionals from the entertainment community including writers, composers, producers and recording artists, and to executives and professionals in business, industry, military, aviation, higher education and similar fields. V-CAP provides psychiatric and substance dependency assessment, treatment planning, and monitoring within a therapeutic environment that enables professionals and their families to identify problems and develop life plans that foster authentic personal growth, optimal professional performance and vitality.

V-CAP philosophy is based on the belief that successful treatment of serious emotional and behavioral problems requires recognition of the complexity and ecology of human life.  It assumes that assessment and treatment programs must address, in an integrated manner, biological issues, relationships, and professionals' difficulties in meeting and mastering life's challenges.

Program staff illuminate and help the client to understand the underlying causes of motivation and behavior at the intersection between their own internal world and interpersonal dynamics.  We believe that the byproduct of meaningful self-reflection and empathy is improved relationships, clear thinking, and the ability to pursue one's goals with intention and creativity.
