Vanderbilt University School of Medicine offers a one-year surgical pathology fellowship for pathologists who have completed their AP or AP/CP training. Five positions per year are offered. Rotations include surgical pathology at Vanderbilt Hospital, supervising junior residents and fulfilling primary signout responsibilities, including surgical specimens, medical biopsies, frozen sections, and consults; cytopathology, including performance and interpretation of fine needle aspirations; and the Breast Consultation Service. There is opportunity for clinicopathologic and translational research. Fellows also participate in departmental and interdepartmental conferences and in student teaching.
In 2008, there were over 35,000 accessions in Surgical Pathology. The range of material is excellent, and there is good depth and breadth of faculty expertise and supervision.
