Message

Baskets

1.     Click MsgBaskets in the black menu bar under Work Lists.

2.     The messages will appear in the top frame.

3.     If this is the first time to view the message baskets, select your designated basket from the drop-down menu.

4.     Click the date/time or the text of the message to view or edit.

5.     The message will then appear in the frame below.

Note: You can customize StarPanel to automatically load your message basket page by going to customize then to preferences. Under desktop make sure the msg.basket is in blue boldface type.

Respond to a Message

1.     To respond to a message, click the date/time or the text of the message.

2.     The message will appear in the frame below.

3.     Type the response in the New Entry window.

4.     Click the persons basket from the drop-down menu to whom you would like to send the message.

Creating a New Message

1.     There are several places in Star Panel to find a link to NewMsg:

Black Menu Bar: Type MR#, name or SS# (with dashes) at the top of the black menu bar. Once the patients chart appears, you may choose NewMsg in the yellow highlighted frame under the heading Enter Data. Your message will then appear in the bottom frame.

Outpatient Visit: Once you have the list, select The NewMsg link appears in the list for outpatient visits

Panels: The NewMsg link appears in the list of patients in a panel.

2.     Type your message in the New Entry window.

3.     Mark priority, respond, or in-clinic order as needed.

4.     Click the persons basket from the drop down menu to which you would like to send the message.

*Note: You can select NewMsg from any document in Star Panel. New Message is also accessible wherever you see the yellow drop down menu called actions.

Retrieve a Message for Revisions

1.     Click on the name of the basket in the drop down menu containing the message you wish to edit.

2.     The message will appear in the frame below.

3.     Click the date/time or the text of the message to retrieve the message.

4.     Make revisions and send the message.

Star Visit Computer

Set-up

1.     Click customize in the black menu bar.

2.     Click preferences.

3.     Select Turn ON Star Visit for this PC at the very bottom of the frame.

4.     You will be prompted to enter either the location code (department code in EPIC) or the providers name.

5.     Click run StarVisit now for this PC.

6.     There are two ways to use Star Visit:

a.     If you enter vitals in the exam room where the patient is to be seen by the provider, StarVisit is set to automatically pull this patients information (i.e. vitals, chief complaint, and problem list) when the provider logs into the computer.

b.     If you enter the StarVisit information in a room other than the exam room where the patient is to be seen, you would need to go to Customize, select Preferences, and click no for use previous patient in StarVisit on the PC. No should appear in blue boldface type.

 

Hidden Task Bars in Menu

1.     If you do not see the task in the black menu bar that you wish to perform, click one of the following options in red: Patient Lists, Work Lists, Inf. Resources, and Customize.

2.     The hidden menu will then open.

*Note: A patient must be selected in order for some menus to appear.

Changing the Size of the Frames

To change the size of a frame you may do one of the following:

1.     Double click inside the frame to increase the size. Double click inside the frame again to decrease the size.

2.     Place the mouse on the colored line separating each frame. This will allow a double arrow to appear on the screen. Hold the left mouse button down while the arrow is visible and this will allow you to move the frame wall up or down for a customized size.

Viewing a List of Outpatient Visits by Physician

1.     Click Outpt. Visits in the black menu bar.

2.     A calendar will appear in the top frame you may click the date in the calendar or type the date in the box above the calendar.

3.     Type the physician name or provider # in the box to the right and click OK.

4.     A list of outpatient visits for the selected provider on the selected date will appear.

Updating a Problem List in Star Panel

1.     Enter the medical record # at the top of the black menu bar or click the medical record # for a patient from anywhere within StarPanel to retrieve a patients chart. The problem list will appear in the bottom frame.

2.     Click Update Problem List at the top of the frame to make any changes or Send As Is if there are no changes.

*Note: In cases of new patients who have not had a problem list created, this area will be blank. If any field of the problem list has not been previously populated with information, that field will not appear in the frame.

*Note: The StarPanel problem list includes sections for Health Maintenance, Family History and Social History. These fields, however, must contain information in order for them to appear on the problem list.

Adding Websites to the StarPanel Menu Bar

1.     Under the red link Inf. Resources, click favorites.

2.     Click modify link.

3.     Click add new link.

4.     Enter the full web address (i.e. www.google.com).

5.     Enter the name that will appear for the link in the black menu bar.

6.     Click OK.

Customizing the Menu Bar

1.     Click customize in the black menu bar.

2.     Click these menus.

3.     Once the background of the black menu bar has turned blue, click the functions in Star Panel you would like to be at the top of your menu bar.

4.     Once you have made all of your selections click these menus again to take your menu out of edit mode. The background will turn black signifying you are out of edit mode.
