Significance: AFP in CSF may be helpful in the monitoring of nonseminomatous testicular cancer. This testing is NOT indicated for pregnant women and /or amniotic fluid samples.
Special Instructions: This test requires approval from a medical director. The Performance characteristics of this test have not been validated in this fluid type. This test is FDA approved, but not for use in CSF. Physicians interested in measuring AFP in amniotic fluid for the detection of open neural tube defects should order Amniotic Fluid Alpha-Fetoprotein (AAF).
