Special Instructions: There will be separate charges for organism identification and susceptibility testing when appropriate. Make a note on the requisition if toxic shock syndrome is suspected. Gram stains are not performed on cervical specimens. Specimen is routinely cultured for Neisseria gonorrheae. Streptococcus group B culture is done for OB patients. If toxic shock syndrome is suspected, the culture will be examined for predominance of Staph aureus and Streptococcus group A.
