Significance: EBV has been implicated as a cause of lymphoproliferative diseases in immunocompromised patients, including post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD), which is associated with significant morbidity and mortality in transplant recipients. Quantification of the systemic EBV load may provide a sensitive and specific method to predict the development of PTLD. A decline in viral load usually accompanies clinical resolution and suggests therapeutic success. Early, accurate diagnosis and quantitative tracking of EBV infection underpin management of PTLD patients. Quantitative PCR detection of circulating EBV is the current standard approach to viral load monitoring.
Special Instructions: Analytical measurement range: 200-5,000,000 cpy/mL. Click here to print the Molecular Diagnostics requisition.
