Specimen: Stool is preferred. Rectal swabs are accepted.
Alternate Specimen: Will accept sample in UTM but requires lab consult
Volume: Midsize portion if solid,5 mL if sample is liquid.
Minimum Volume: Pea size amount if solid or 1mL liquid
Temperature: Store refrigerated (2-8C)
Stability: Store refrigerated (2-8 C). Samples that are older than 24 hours will receive comment.
Reasons for Rejection: Calcium alginate or wooden-shaft swab, dry swab
Days Performed: Daily
Times Performed: Noon
TAT: Same day or 1-2 days.
