: Cellular material in a small amount of universal (viral) transport medium (UTM) or sterile saline - specify source. No wooden shaft or calcium alginate tip swabs;no disinfectant. NOT PERFORMED ON CSF. COLLECT EXTRA SWAB IF CULTURE IS NEEDED.
: Will accept material in syringe for DFA only but requires Virolog Medical Director consult.
: 1 - 3 mL UTM or sterile saline
: 1 mL UTM or sterile saline
: Store refrigerated (2-8° C), do not freeze, transport on wet ice
: Store refrigerated (2-8 C); samples older than 24 hours will receive comment.
Reasons for Rejection
: Calcium alginate/wooden/dry swab; Slide prep not preferred but accepted
: Monday - Friday: 6:30 am to 11:00 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

: Send to laboratory immediately on ice. No wooden shaft, calcium alginate or dry swabs.
