CMV CULTURE (CMC)

Methodology: Rapid Shell Viral Culture
Reference Range: Culture - no virus isolated
Tube Type: Liquids in sterile leak proof container with NO ADDITIVE, tissue or swab in universal (viral) transport media, 3 mL
Specimen: Material from any other site except blood-specify source. DO NOT PLACE URINE, CSF or any body fluid in transport media.
Pediatric Requirements: 1 - 2 mL urine
Volume: Urine: 10 - 15 mL
Temperature: Store refrigerated (2-8 C), do not freeze, transport on wet ice
Stability: Labile specimen. Keep refrigerated.
Reasons for Rejection: Collected more than 1 day prior to receipt in lab, urine in container with additive, calcium alginate or wooden-shaft swab, dry swab, leakage
Days Performed: Daily
Times Performed: Monday - Friday: 6:30 am to 11:00 pm. Saturday and Sunday: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

TAT: 24 - 48 hours
Special Instructions: Send to the lab immediately on ice. Place in universal (viral) transport medium UNLESS liquid specimen (Urine, CSF, etc.). No wooden or calcium alginate swabs. Additional tests/charges may be added as appropriate.
