: Viral culture screen, hemadsorption, CMV shell vial for pp65 antigen, Flu A and B and Respiratory Syncytial antigens by immunochromatography

: Culture - no virus isolated, CMV antigen - negative, RSV antigen - negative, FLU antigens - negative
: Wash, aspirate, lavage in sterile leakproof container; flocked swab preferred but dacron/rayon swab accepted in universal transport medium,3ml or 1-2 ml saline
: Material from respiratory source only; Nasopharyngeal (NP) swab/aspirate/wash or nasal wash preferred
: Store refrigerated (2-8° C), do not freeze, transport on wet ice
: Labile specimen. Keep refrigerated.
Reasons for Rejection
: Collected more than 1 day prior to receipt in lab, non-respiratory source, calcium alginate or wooden-shaft swab, dry swab
: Monday - Saturday. Flu and RSV antigen performed 24/7
: Monday - Friday: 6:30 am to 11:00 pm, Saturday: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
: Culture: 1 - 30 days, CMV antigen: 24 - 48 hours, flu and RSV antigen: 30 minutes - 1 hour
: Send to lab immediately on ice. Add viral transport medium to respiratory trap. No wooden shaft or calcium alginate tip swabs. Additional tests/charges may be added as appropriate. Respiratory DFA available upon consultation with virology laboratory.
