Specimen: Material from any site: BLOOD or SERUM require Virology Lab Consult; Specifiy source
Pediatric Requirements: 1 -2 mL urine
Temperature: Store refrigerated (2-8° C), do not freeze, transport on wet ice
Stability: Labile specimen. Keep refrigerated.
Reasons for Rejection: Collected more than 1 day prior to receipt in lab, calcium alginate or wooden-shaft swab, dry swab, clotted blood, leakage
Days Performed: Monday - Saturday
Times Performed: Monday - Friday: 6:30 am to 11:00 pm, Saturday: 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
TAT: 1-10 days; 20 days if VZ specifically requested
Special Instructions: Send to the lab immediately on ice. Put in viral transport medium unless liquid specimen. No wooden shaft or calcium alginate tip swabs. Additional tests/charges may be added as appropriate.
