CSF CYTOLOGY (NGY)
: Cerebral Spinal Fluid, Brain Cyst Fluid, CNS Body Fluid
: Call Lab for assistance at 615-322-2721.
: Any clean specimen container and/or the Plastic LP tube. (Second or third tube collected is preferable for cytology)
: Fresh specimen - deliver to the lab immediately
: 3cc to 10 cc is optimal
: Refrigeration is optimal
Reasons for Rejection
: Mislabeled specimen, insufficient fluid for processing
: Monday - Friday; closed major Holidays
: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
: 24 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) for routine cases.
: Need patient history of prior or suspected malignancy; i.e., carcinoma, melanoma, lymphoma, etc.
: We must be informed if patient had prior or has suspected Lymphoma or Leukemia. Specimens on patients with this history are directed to another laboratory for different tests and results (Hematology and Hemepathology). For patients with a history of or suspected carcinoma (or malignancy other than Heme) should be directed to Cytopathology.
