Temperature: Send to lab immediately after collection
Stability: Refrigerated (2 to 8C) up to 48 hours before preparing hemolysate. Hemolysate may be stored at -20 C for up to 30 days.
Reasons for Rejection: Unprocessed specimen over 4 hours old at arrival to lab, incorrect specimen, clotted
Days Performed: Monday - Friday
Times Performed: 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
TAT: Up to 3 days
Special Instructions: Red Cell Folate measurements provide limited additional clinical utility to serum folate alone and should only be ordered in patients with macrocytic anemia.
