Joseph Goldberger (1874-1929) was an epidemiologist and infectious disease specialist. He is best known for his investigations that established pellagra as a deficiency disease. He performed research in preventive medicine and infectious diseases with original investigations of yellow fever (1902-1905), typhoid fever (1906), dengue fever (1907), trematodes [parasitic worms] (1907-1909), typhus fever (1909-1912), diphtheria (1913-1914) and pellagra (1914-1929).

He received his M.D. from Bellevue Medical College in 1895. He joined the Public Health Service Corps in 1899 and worked in the Hygienic Laboratories until 1929.
