Historical/Biographical Note
 
Elizabeth Neige Todhunter (1901-1991) was a nutritionist, teacher, author, and lecturer. Her biographical and historical writings and lectures greatly promoted interest in history of nutrition science.

She received her M.Sc. from the University of Otago in New Zealand in 1925, and later received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1933. She was an Associate Professor of Home Economics at the State College of Washington from 1934-1941. Then she went to the University of Alabama, first as Director of the Research Laboratory of Human Nutrition from 1941-1953, and then as Professor and Dean of the Department of Food and Nutrition from 1953-1966. Then she was a Visiting Professor of Nutrition for the Department of Biochemistry at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine from 1967-1991. She also served as President of the American Dietetic Association from 1957-1958.
