DescriptionThe History of Medicine Collection maintains over 14,000 rare books on the history of medicine and related subjects. A majority of these titles are 18th and 19th century imprints. Included in the collection are excellent examples of 16th and 17th century anatomies. Vanderbilt’s History of Nutrition Collection is one of the strongest collections on this subject in the world and includes all the important published works on scurvy and rickets. Also included in the nutrition collection are works on the history of wine and alcoholic beverage, culinary history and the food protection movement in the United States and Great Britain. Other strong subject collections include, pediatrics, surgery, nephrology, urology, hypnosis, and Civil War Medicine.
