John E. (Jed) Kuhn, MD is an Associate Professor at Vanderbilt and Chief of Shoulder Surgery at Vanderbilt Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery.
Dr. Kuhn is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan, followed by a fellowship in orthopaedic sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado.
Following his fellowship, Dr. Kuhn established a busy practice with the University of Michigan focusing on disorders of the shoulder and sports medicine, where he served as a team physician with the University of Michigan Athletic Department. He was also the head team physician for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, and has traveled extensively in Europe with USA Hockey Teams as the team physician. In addition, he has served as a physician with the US Olympic Committee, volunteering in Colorado Springs, and the 2003 World Winter University Games in Tarvisio, Italy. In his new position, he will serve as a team physician with Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Kuhn is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Association, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and is the only member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons in the State of Tennessee.
Dr. Kuhn's clinical interests include arthroscopic shoulder surgery, the evaluation and treatment of the athlete's shoulder, and methods of keeping the older athlete active. His research interests are in biomechanical investigations into the pathology of the athlete’s shoulder, and in outcomes after treatment of shoulder disorders.
