 Cutting Edge Research

Vanderbilt Sports Medicine leads the orthopedic community in cutting edge research both locally and nationally.  Our physicians have been published in medical journals and have presented at both state and national level conferences.  It is our mission to improve the lives of others through science, education and clinical skill. To be the best, we continously are working on creating better surgical techniques, and rehabilitation through our research.

Kurt Spindler: His active basic science research focuses on the difference between extraarticular (MCL) and intraarticular (ACL) ligament healing and the role of tissue engineering and growth factors to modulate repair. His practice and clinical research includes prospective long-term follow-up of anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions, and he initiated the Multicenter Orthopaedic Outcomes Network (MOON) in 2001.

John Kuhn: His research interests are in biomechanical investigations into the pathology of the athlete's shoulder, and in outcomes after treatment of shoulder disorders.

Warren Dunn: As the 2001 recipient of the AAOS/OREF Health Services Research Fellowship Grant , Dr. Dunn obtained an MPH from Columbia focusing on clinical epidemiology and outcomes research. He has received numerous research awards including the Richard O'Connor award from the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and the O'Donoghue Sports Injury Research Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) research.
