William A. Nylander, M.D, Associate Professor, Vanderbilt Division of Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation, Nashville, TennesseeDr. Nylander received his undergraduate degree at Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania in 1973 and his medical degree at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1977. He completed his M.B.A. at the Owen School of Business in 1989. He completed his surgical internship and residency at Vanderbilt Medical Center. While a Postdoctoral Fellow in Cardiac nad Thoracic Surgery, he received the National Research Service Award. After his surgical residency, he completed a transplantation fellowship in the Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He returned to Vanderbilt Medical Center as Assistant Professor of Surgery. and became Associate Professor in 1991. Dr. Nylander is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a staff surgeon at Vanderbilt Medical Center, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Nashville, and Saint Thomas Hospital. His clinical practice focuses on end-stage kidney disease including kidney and pancreas transplantation, and secondary complications of diabetes. His research interests include novel immunosuppression strategies to minimize risk and improve outcomes post-transplant.
