Photographic portrait of Robert C. Berson. A native of Brownsville, Tennessee, Dr. Berson graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in 1937. After three years of medical practice in his hometown, Berson entered the army medical corps, serving in World War II with the Vanderbilt 300th General Hospital Unit in Naples, Italy, from 1942 until 1946. Berson became Assistant Dean and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois. He then served on the Vanderbilt faculty as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Assistant Dean from 1952-1955, before leaving for the Medical College of Alabama (later UAB) where he served as dean until 1962.
