Photographic portrait of Horton Casparis. Dr. Horton Casparis was a native of Texas and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas. He received his M.D. degree from Johns Hopkins in 1919 and from 1920-24 served in various capacities of assistant resident, resident, instructor and associate in the Deparmnet of Pediatrics at Harriet Lane Home of the Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1925 he was chosen by Dr. G. Canby Robinson to join the staff of the "new" Vanderbilt Hospital. Casparis came to Vanderbilt as Associate Professor of Pediatrics; he became full Professor of Pediatrics and chair of the department in 1928. Dr. Casparis died in 1943.
