Photographic portrait of George William Reyer. Colonel George William Reyer, M.D., graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1913 and from Vanderbilt University Medical School in 1917. Following graduation, Reyer was commissioned first lieutenant, Medical Corps, United States Army. He was promoted to captain in 1919, to major in 1921, to lt. colonel in 1939, and to colonel in 1942. Reyer served in the Philippine Islands from 1921-1923 and in Tientsen, China, from 1929-1932. He became professor of military science and tactics at Vanderbilt University in 1937 and served in that capacity until 1940.
