The mission of the Vanderbilt Center for Better Health is to accelerate change in healthcare. In addition to the components of the VCBH focused on research, agenda-setting and education, the VCBH provides consulting and advisory services to health care organizations interested
in pursuing transformational change.
Based on the experience of the Vanderbilt Medical Center in implementing major change over the past decade, the VCBH has developed a methodology and a set of tools and resources that can be applied in any organization to design and execute transformational change. Our experience in working with client organizations over the past few years is that these methods and tools can help leaders of institutions achieve better results much faster than those achieved through traditional approaches to planning and implementation.
The Rapid Advance Methodology used by the VCBH combined high-impact collaborative events (DesignShops) with coaching and support for leaders in an organization to successfully design and execute change. The tools and methods used at the VCBH can be applied to:

Creating Strategic Plans that outline Key Goals and Aspirations, as well as strategies and tactics for achieving them.

Developing plans for implementing strategies, technologies, or major changes to work processes and operations.

Scanning and exploring new product and service opportunities in an accelerated timeframe, with input from customers, suppliers, business partners and all key stakeholders.

Developing and implementing solutions to problems that are preventing optimal organizational performance.

Developing approaches to deploying information technology in ways that will accelerate adoption by clinicians and others to quickly improve quality, safety and resource utilization.
