Elizabeth Calhoun
Swarr, MHA Elizabeth Calhoun Swarr serves as a Senior Consultant for the Vanderbilt Center for Better Health. She received her BA in Health Care Administration from Mary Baldwin College in 1998 and a Master in Health Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2000. After completing her administrative residency at The North Carolina Baptist Hospitals, Inc. in Winston-Salem, NC, Elizabeth joined Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center as a Divisional Operations Analyst in the Nursing Administration division in 2001. Elizabeth moved from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN to help start the Vanderbilt Center for Better Health in 2002. In her current role she leads Center programs that help fulfill the Center mission of accelerating change in healthcare delivery. She develops and manages DesignShop events, consulting engagements, conferences, new tool development and deployment. Elizabeth was a member of Rapid Advance project team accessing client readiness to a phased approach to IT enabled quality and safety targets to achieve an electronic health record in less than one year. She served as project manager on a health-system Assessment project of CPOE implementation scope, approach, goals and expected outcomes. In February of 2005, Elizabeth was named to the Nashville Business Journal’s “Tennessee's 30 under 30” list. The "30 Under 30" program identifies emerging leaders under 30 years of age whose past efforts indicate a strong likelihood of future accomplishment. She was also awarded the 2005 Leadership Healthcare Volunteer of the Year award. Elizabeth is an active member of her community, serving on several boards, including Leadership Health Care and the Medical University of South Carolina Department of Health Administration and Policy Alumni Board. Elizabeth also serves her profession on the ACHE Western Tennessee Regents Advisory Council. She is an Active member of the Junior League of Nashville, a Diplomate in the American College of Health Care Executives and works with the American Cancer Society (Relay for Life) and House of Mercy foundations.
