What is the VCBH Innovation Center?
The VCBH Innovation Center is a dynamic physical environment designed to facilitate highly productive and innovative work. The VCBH uses the Innovation Center in its pursuit of its mission to accelerate change in health care.
Who can use the VCBH Innovation Center?
In addition to being used by VCBH staff to support VCBH-sponsored events, it is available to other groups from Vanderbilt and other organizations for events designed to take advantage of the Center’s unique collaborative work capability. What resources are available?
VCBH staff assists in designing, planning and conducting highly effective DesignShop sessions. These sessions may focus on strategic planning, development and transformation, regional informatics, leadership engagement, sales strategy and skills for healthcare, and clinical adoption. The VCBH facilitators will lead the group, using unique methods and tools designed to maximize innovation, productivity and results. They are supported by a staff of knowledge workers who will be documenting the work through graphics, video capture and will create a work product of all the ideas, concepts, next steps and action items created in the session.
What types of sessions occur in the Innovation Center and how long do they last?
The VCBH conducts 2 and 3-day DesignShop® events with teams from Vanderbilt and other organizations to design innovation solutions.
The VCBH also conducts conferences and workshops related to areas such as clinical information technology, organizational transformation and improvement of care delivery. The Innovation Center also supports various projects and initiatives of the VCBH related to development of tools, resources and learning for healthcare organizations.
Who designed the Innovation Center?
The VCBH staff worked with MG Taylor to design and build the Innovation Center. MG Taylor designs, builds, and implements innovative environments, processes and tools. How can I become a Knowledge Worker for VCBH Events?
The VCBH uses Knowledge Workers to support the sessions that occur in the Innovation Center.
Knowledge Workers are individuals who carry out different tasks before, during and after events, including:
- Graphic documentation of dialogue and discussion
- Plan and support logistical requirements
- Video and photographic capture and editing
- Create web journals or pdfs of the work produced during the session
- Support simulations, modeling and other activities during events.
Working as a Knowledge Worker is an exciting and rewarding experience. Individuals learn to support clients in new ways of working, as well as help the VCBH pursue its mission of improving healthcare delivery.
