Vanderbilt University Medical Center

Addiction Research Center
Clinical Programs Division of Alcohol & Substance Abuse

The Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse [DASA] was established in the Department of Psychiatry to provide the academic base for research, teaching, and clinical care in the broad area of alcohol and substance abuse/dependence. The clinical activities of the Division are focused within the Vanderbilt Addiction Care Center [VACC]. Clinical education activities are coordinated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center [VUMC] by clinicians and investigators who are faculty of several Departments of the Medical School and are associated with VACC. Medical student teaching occurs by lectures and experiential teaching in all four years, and during the clinical rotation in psychiatry in the third year. Postgraduate training in addiction psychiatry and medicine for VUMC house officers and for subspecialty fellows occurs through the accreditated Psychiatry Residency Program with rotations in VACC and the Nashville Veterans Affairs Medical Center Dual Diagnosis Program.
