Announcements:

The Vanderbilt Eye Institute is proud to announce the arrival of our new faculty members:

Stephen J. Kim, M.D.
Assistant Professor
Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery





Dr. Kim joins the Vanderbilt Eye Institute with a focus on Vitreoretinal Surgery and Uveitis. Dr. Kim received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, John Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Kim completed a fellowship in ocular immunology and uveitis at the Wilmer Eye Institute and most recently completed a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine.

Dr. Kim is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and a recipient of the Heed Fellowship. He is one of 3 siblings and hales originally from Port Charlotte, Florida. Dr. Kim has a keen interest in wine, Duke basketball, and military history.


Mark R. Melson, M.D.
Assistant Professor
Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Neuro-Ophthalmology







Dr. Melson joins the Vanderbilt Eye Institute with a focus on Oculoplastic, Orbital, and Cosmetic Surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Harvard Medical School Residency Program in Ophthalmology. Most recently, Dr. Melson completed his fellowship in Oculoplastic, Orbital, and Cosmetic Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. Prior to that, he completed fellowship training in Neuro-ophthalmology at Emory. His areas of clinical expertise include the management of orbital, lacrimal, and eyelid disease. He is particularly interested in periocular reconstruction following malignancy or trauma as well as rehabilitation of the anophthalmic eye socket.

Dr. Melson is board-certified in ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In his free time, he enjoys fly fishing and golf.
